Your Comfort is Imperative

Dental Sedation for Peace of Mind and Body

A study by Bupa, an international healthcare group, revealed that only half of UK residents polled visited the dentist regularly, and in four years, one in seven had not seen a dentist at all. Four percent had never, ever attended a dental appointment. Many people who neglect regular dental visits do so because of the fear, stress, and angst they experience prior to and during dental appointments.

Comfort is Priority

Our philosophy for patient care is founded on the principal of improving quality of life. Dr. Murray-Curtis can cite a significant amount of research that confirms the importance of dental care to good overall health. He knows, however, that some patients who have access and means to visit the dentist avoid dental appointments because of fear. In addition, a patient who feels physically uncomfortable sitting in the dental chair or holding his mouth open during treatment may also postpone or avoid dental care. To forward our commitment to improving quality of life through dentistry, Dr. Murray-Curtis offers dental sedation to make all patients overcome the mental and physical hurdles that keep them from seeking dental care.

Types of Sedation

At Silk Dental Care, you’ll have access to three types of sedation, in addition to local anaesthetic, for your optimal comfort.

  • Nitrous Oxide: Dr. Murray-Curtis is certified to administer this relaxing gas that has been used in dentistry for over a century. One major benefit of nitrous oxide is that its effects subside immediately, so the patient can return to work and life right after his appointment.
  • Oral Sedation: An oral sedative, taken about an hour prior to a procedure, can calm the nerves and relax the body. The effects of oral sedation take some time to wear off, so patients need to be accompanied by a friend who can provide transportation.
  • IV Sedation: Certified by the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD), Dr. Murray-Curtis is proud to offer conscious sedation in our Cheshire dental clinic. When necessary, he can administer anaesthetic intravenously, keeping the patient awake and responsive, yet indifferent to anxiety and discomfort.
