At Silk Dental Care, we invite you and your entire family to visit us regularly – this includes the youngest members of your family. If your child has already developed his or her first tooth, or has reached the age of two, we recommend scheduling an appointment. Dr. Murray-Curtis and our friendly team look forward introducing your child to dental care and beginning a lifelong journey toward good oral health.
What Can I Expect?
We would like to assure you that we have your best interests at heart, as well as the comfort of your child. During your child’s first visits, your little one will be exposed to the environment of “the Dentist’s”. He or she can take a ride in the dental chair and see what our suction and water tools do. Dr. Murray-Curtis will meet you and your child, and he can answer all of your questions about childhood tooth development, primary tooth loss, and oral home care for children.
Once your child feels comfortable and relaxed in our clinic, we will begin providing full examinations. For most kids, regular dental cleanings can begin around age three.
We offer the following paediatric dentistry services:
- Gentle Dental Checkups and Cleanings
- Sealants and Fluoride
- Restorative Dentistry
- Referral to a Paediatric Dentist, when Necessary
What are the Benefits of Early Childhood Dental Visits?
Teaching your child good habits early in life will underscore your dedication to their optimal oral health. In short, early childhood dental visits establish a foundation and set a good example for future habits. At a child’s checkup,
- We can identify and address developmental dental problems early
- Our preventive care will reduce the risk of cavities, gum disease, and related treatments
- We will apply dental sealants as a barrier between bacteria and your child’s teeth
- We’ll also administer fluoride treatment to strengthen tooth enamel and deter cavities
Is My Child Ready?
Infants need their gums and mouth gently wiped clean each day with a soft, damp cloth. Children should attend a first dental visit when the first tooth erupts or by the age of two, according to the NHS. When the first tooth erupts, begin brushing with a toddler-sized tooth brush and un-fluoridated toothpaste.
If you feel uncertain about bringing your child in for a checkup, call our clinic and allow us to answer your questions. The benefits of early childhood dental visits greatly outweigh any possible concerns and we’re certain that we can reassure you of this. Because the formation of baby teeth play a significant role in chewing, good nutrition, and clear speaking; dental care at home and in the dentist’s clinic is an important part of your child’s health and wellness.
